Consequences of indiscretion

“And his mother's brethren spake of him in the ears of all the men of Shechem all these words: and their hearts inclined to follow Abimelech; for they said, He is our brother. And they gave him threescore and ten pieces of silver out of the house of Baal–berith, wherewith Abimelech hired vain and light persons, which followed him. And he went unto his father's house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.” Judges 9:3-5 KJV https://www.bible.com/1/jdg.9.3-5.kjv

Consequences of indiscretion

There are consequences…. I recall watching a movie so many years ago called ‘Just a little Sin’ in which a ‘small’ act of indiscretion had ripple effects that were significant. In the same vein, in today’s Bible reading, the son that Gideon had from his concubine almost wiped out the whole lineage of his father, almost killing all of his legitimate seventy sons from his wives in one day except for one that escaped. He needed to rule Isreal so badly that he was willing to eliminate every obstacle. We know of the story of Abraham’s indiscretion and the generational enmity that continues to ensue. The impacts of these indiscretions appear to be more significant when the perpetrator is someone of significant maturity in their walk with God. The stories are many in the Bible. Those who should know better. And so the Bible continues to warn that “Let him that stands take heed lest he falls”. Examine yourself today and plead with God for mercy for any acts of indiscretion you may have committed.

Prayer: Dear Lord, you are plenteous in mercy. Please have mercy on me for any acts of disobedience or indiscretion by walking out of your will for me in Jesus name🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
