God indeed uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. The seemingly impossible thing to the physical mind is established by the relatively insignificant. In the Bible reading today, following the great showing against the prophets of Baal where Elijah called down fire and then killed the prophets, the great Elijah was now on the run and depressed because the queen Jezebel had promised that he was a dead man. He had had enough. The endorsement that he hoped to receive from the highest office in the land of the awesomeness of the Lord did not come. Instead he got a threat to his life. He took off into a cave and asked God to take his life. God showed up and asked him twice, first as an impression of the word of God and then in His still small voice, what he was doing there. There was a great showing before the voice - Strong wind, earth quake and fire - yet God’s presence came in a still small voice as a message to Elijah. Elijah read out his Profile to God - he had been zealous for God in the midst of a perverse generation. He was the only one left and now they are trying to kill him despite his impressive showing. Well, the Lord named replacements including his own. He also confirmed that there were 7,000 that had not bowed to Baal. The act from Elijah in which he called down fire from heaven previously probably even served to strengthen their faith although it may not have been obvious to Elijah. Where are you seeking for endorsements? Where are you hoping to get the rewards of the great service that you have been rendering to God? Are you feeling disappointed or depressed because no acknowledgment seems in sight? Trust God, the answers may be in unexpected quarters. Besides, if God reckons with you then it does not matter what the highest offices of men think. Don’t loose your peace or your kingdom designation in the search of the endorsement.
