“And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand. And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.” 1 Samuel 27:1-2 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1sa.27.1-2.kjv
Are you seeking respite with the enemy? Sometimes in life we are faced with challenging situations that we sometimes want to resort to some compromise to get rest. This often turns out to be a bad idea. The Bible asks us if it is possible for two to walk together except they agree. We are asked too what association light has with darkness? In the Bible reading today, David was weary of being chased by Saul so he decided to go to get a physical ally - the same Philistines that he had fought and conquered their champion Goliath and their armies. Even though Saul had chased him repeatedly, God had been granting David victory but he was worn out with the hide and seek. We know that the decision to camp with the Philistines will later cause him heartache. As the enemies will always remind you when it’s most critical that you are after all still not one of them as the Philistines later did to David in the face of battle (1 Sam 29:9) and on top of that he almost lost his family and the loyalty of the men that were with him (1 Sam 30:6). Our God remains mighty to save so before you go into that agreement with the ‘enemy’ or return to situations where you already previously had victory, rethink that decision because the final outcome may be disastrous.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I look to you as the author and finisher of my faith. Please give me the grace to fix my eyes on you always as my deliverer. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
