“Then said she, I pray thee, let the king remember the Lord thy God, that thou wouldest not suffer the revengers of blood to destroy any more, lest they destroy my son. And he said, As the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair of thy son fall to the earth. And the woman said, Wherefore then hast thou thought such a thing against the people of God? for the king doth speak this thing as one which is faulty, in that the king doth not fetch home again his banished.” 2 Samuel 14:11, 13 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2sa.14.11-13.kjv
Do you walk your talk? Do you practice what you preach? Often as Christians we appear blindsided to the issues in our lives while attempting to address a related or similar issues in others. This is why the Bible tells us to remove the log in our eyes before attempting to remove the speck in someone else’s (Matt 7:5). In the Bible reading today, after Absalom - David’s son killed his half brother in revenge, he had run away from his father the king for a while. Now, a case study was created for King David of a similar scenario and in the goodness of his heart he had judged that the erring son should be protected from harm. King David was then reminded as to how he had not reached out to restore his son Absalom from ‘exile’. His eyes were then opened and he did the right thing. As children of God, we speak about God’s mercies and faithfulness and other attributes of God. We encourage people with those words but sometimes in our daily lives and decisions, these words and perspectives are not our realities. So question today is: Taking a critical look at yourself, are you living your message? Are you truly doing What Jesus Would do (like the popular slogan some years back)?
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your saving grace and your love towards us even when we were yet sinners. Please Lord, open my eyes to aspects in my life where I am not living fully according to your expectations and help me through the Holy Spirit to retrace myself so that my life will continue to be an example for a true child of God pointing the glory to you always 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
