God has specifications for fellowship. He expects service to be done the right way and with the right heart. This was why he spoke of a people who serve him with their lips but their hearts are far from him. The Bible also records a king who did all the right things but without the right heart. In the Bible reading today, in response to the questions of the Israelites about them fasting and God not acknowledging it, he provides an assessment of what they had been doing.  According to the text, God says to them that what they have been calling a fast is not what he ordained it to be. It’s not a self serving ‘righteous outlook’ whereas every thing else does not resonate with it. God then describes the sort of fast that opens doors and causes their light to spring forth. It is the fast that is backed with action towards the things that matter to God like loosening the bands over the oppressed, to give food to the hungry and cover the nakedness of the poor.  So question for you is: Is your worship proceeding from the right heart? Is it complemented by right living and pointing glory to God in all other aspects of your living. Be reminded God is not mocked.
