Don't profile God, get specific instructions
“And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. And when David enquired of the Lord, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the Lord go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.” 2 Samuel 5:22-24 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2sa.5.22-24.kjv
Do you profile Gods methods? And Samson said that he will arise like before but he did not know that God had left him (Judges 16:20). It can be dangerous to get too familiar with God that we preempt Him. In today’s Bible reading, the prophecy of many years had now been fulfilled in David’s life. He was now king over the whole of Isreal. However, his all too familiar enemies were back. But David knew the drill that he had always done. He checked in with God for what might appear to others as the obvious. He wanted to know if he should go and fight the philistines. The first time God said yes (vs 10) and there was victory. However, the philistines came back to the valley and it would make sense for David to go forward and fight. After all, it was the same enemy, same location and God had previously given the go-ahead. But in today’s Bible verse, he asked again and God said ‘Don’t go up’ but changed the strategy for them and the battle was won. Imagine if David had gone forward ‘as before’ without checking in. He would have lost a battle that was his for the taking. God is concerned about the small details of our life. Always check-in before you match forward into ‘the victory that he has given you’ because there may be something specific in the strategy that must be done to hand the victory over to you.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for the victory that you assure me through the blood of Jesus. I receive the grace to be disciplined and obedient enough like a sheep to seek your instruction at all times so that my victory will be permanent to your glory. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
