Don't wrestle with God

“Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD.” Jonah 1:2-3 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/jon.1.2-3.kjv

Don't wrestle with God

Where does one run to from the presence of the omnipresent God. The psalmist says that if he were to go to the heavens or to the deepest part of the earth, God’s presence is there. Jonah in our Bible reading today had a first hand experience of this. He had been sent on an assignment that he thought was too tough for him and so he ran away from God’s presence like so many of us do when we go in the opposite direction of where God is leading us to.  On Joshua’s trip towards his own choice destination, he encountered the mighty hands of the one who controls the seas. He encountered a challenge that eventually steered him back into the center of God’s will. It’s interesting that at the time that the ship he was in was going through the storm, the passengers of the ship were praying to God for help. They went on to cast lots and the root cause of their challenge was clear.  It was God’s way of pointing them to what needs to be done. They struggled a bit but eventually had to partner with God to send Jonah back to his place of assignment albeit through a torturous ride in the belly of the fish. Don’t struggle with God. He is  all-knowing, ever-present and all-sufficient.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you because your plans towards me are to give me a hope and a future. Please Lord I come before you afresh to repent of any past acts of disobedience. Please forgive me Lord and grant me the discipline to do your will in utmost obedience in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.
