The voice of God or the voice of the people?
“And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines gathered themselves together at Michmash; Therefore said I, The Philistines will come down now upon me to Gilgal, and I have not made supplication unto the Lord: I forced myself therefore, and offered a burnt offering.” 1 Samuel 13:11-12 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1sa.13.11-12.kjv
Is the voice of the people truly a proxy for what God is saying? There is a popular saying - the voice of the people is the voice of God - used in the context that the popular opinion is an indication that something is right. This is however not always correct as can be seen in the Bible reading today where as a result of a need to satisfy the Isrealites who were in despair, Saul carried out an assignment that was not his to do. He took the place of the priest Samuel because he valued the opinions of the people rather than waiting patiently for Heaven’s guidelines. That cost him his kingdom as there was an immediate replacement in the spiritual even though the manifestation was still to take a while. What are you about to embark upon because it is popular opinion, possibly even amongst fellow Christians? You need to double check that it is aligned with God’s specific journey and instruction for you through the help of the Holy Spirit and seeking God’s face in prayers. May we not miss our divine timing in Jesus name.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for your faithfulness and for planning my life out to the smallest details. Please help me to continue to be at the center of your will so that I do not terminate my victory run prematurely in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
