Dishonour attracts punishment
“And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.” Numbers 20:10-12 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/num.20.10-12.kjv

Be careful of measuring your complete obedience by God’s show of wonders through you. As someone who has access to God’s inner circle and as a representative of God to the people around us, He holds us to very high standards of obedience. As seen in the Bible reading today, when the Israelites had again started to throw tantrums from the discomfort of thirst. Moses and Aaron went to God away from the people and received instructions from God - speak to the rock. However, they returned in public and Moses asked the people if they must get them water from the rock and right after hit the rock twice. Well, you would say that if they did not follow God’s instruction why then did the water come out. For God’s name sake, He came through because He had consistently marked Moses and Aaron as His in the presence of Isreal. But they had crossed a vital line by first not crediting God with the provision and also deviating from the instruction. They knew better having walked with God who paid attention to the specific dimensions of the tent of worship and all the placements. Of course, they were aggravated by the people and their flesh reacted in anger and possibly pride. They paid the ultimate price and did not enter into the promise land. The verdict was handed right there immediately after a seeming celebration of being used of God. This is why Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27 that he puts his body under always to prevent being a castaway after having preached to others. May the Holy Spirit help us always and save us from ourselves.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your kindness and love to me always. Thank you for using me for your glory. Please Lord help me through the HolySpirit and your word so that I would not be guilty of the assignment that you have committed into my hands. Help me Lord to enter into my promise 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
