Be careful of the covenants that you enter into as it could become a ‘legal standing’ against you in the spiritual. The Isrealites in their early days of taking possession of the land had entered into a covenant with the Gibeonites who had deceived them. They did not ask God but went into the convenant and even ratified it with an oath (Joshua 9:14-15). Despite the deceitful nature in which they entered into the covenant, it was binding on them as seen in the Bible reading today. There was famine in the land of Isreal because so many years later Saul had maltreated and killed some Gibeonites. The covenant was speaking for them against the Isrealites. Some people today are facing financial challenges because of the manner in which they maltreat their spouses (Mal 2:14). The Bible tells us that even man-made covenants are not easily nullified (Galatians 3:15). So then you wonder what happens when you enter into a covenant ignorantly. This has to be approached prayerfully to plead your case before God. In the meantime you are not allowed to maltreat or violate the terms of the covenant without the backing and express instructions of God. The Bible says that we are a new creature in Christ but there is intentionality required to break the terms of wrong past agreements. Always seek God’s face and hear his voice before entering into covenants and agreements as a careless agreement may potentially hang over your destiny.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for the blood of Jesus that speaks for me. I pray that every covenant speaking against me be nullified through the blood of Jesus. Please Lord, lead me always and prompt me through the HolySpirit when I may be walking ignorantly or carelessly into an agreement that you have not ordained. Please guide and guard my steps in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
