Burn the Bridges
“Ye shall utterly destroy all the places, wherein the nations which ye shall possess served their gods, upon the high mountains, and upon the hills, and under every green tree: And ye shall overthrow their altars, and break their pillars, and burn their groves with fire; and ye shall hew down the graven images of their gods, and destroy the names of them out of that place. Ye shall not do so unto the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 12:2-4 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/deu.12.2-4.kjv

What are you doing with the artifacts of a past life of sin? Are you condoning them or destroying them. One of the challenges identified with the kings of Israel is that they often did not take away the high places. As such while the people would temporarily drop their sinful habits, the lure of the high places, a reminder of a past life of seeming pleasure on the road to destruction pulls them back in. That is why in the Bible reading today, Moses instructed the Israelites that when they entered into the promised land, they were to make sure to pull down the places of worship of the previous inhabitants of the land. This was to ensure that the Israelites don’t become enticed and start to experiment and thereby falling into the abominable acts of their predecessors. As Christians, what do we do with the things that enabled past acts of sins and disobedience? The bridges to sin left unburned become a potential pathway back into sin. Ask yourself today, what am I tolerating that may become a snare to me - the relationships, bookmarks, fond memories etc. Take deliberate steps to burn the bridges of sin to secure your place in God’s promise.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your faithfulness and lovingkindness always. Please Lord, open my eyes to see through your word and the prompting do the HolySpirit the things that I am tolerating that are a snare and please grant the grace to destroy them in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾.
