Choose your companion wisely
“And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, like as did the house of Ahab: for he had the daughter of Ahab to wife: and he wrought that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD. Howbeit the LORD would not destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that he had made with David, and as he promised to give a light to him and to his sons for ever. Thirty and two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Howbeit they buried him in the city of David, but not in the sepulchres of the kings.” 2 Chronicles 21:6-7, 20 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2ch.21.6-20.kjv

The Bible asks an important question in Prov 6:27 that can a man take fire in his blossom and not be burnt? The Bible also tells us that the companion of fools shall be destroyed. There are consequences for the choice of companions as seen in the Bible reading today, where Jehoram, the son of God-fearing Jehoshaphat abandoned his father’s legacy and instead joined himself with the practices of King Ahab because he was his father-in-law. Despite the prevailing mercies applied to Judah because of King David’s walk with God, there were still consequences for king Jehoram. The immediate consequence is that his reign was short lived. The heart of his neighbors were stirred to make war with him and strip away the treasures. He also became sick, died a horrible death and dishonored when buried as he was not buried in the sepulchers of kings. Choose your associates and close companions wisely. Don’t put fire in your bosom. The consequences can be far-reaching.
