“But David pursued, he and four hundred men: for two hundred abode behind, which were so faint that they could not go over the brook Besor. Then answered all the wicked men and men of Belial, of those that went with David, and said, Because they went not with us, we will not give them ought of the spoil that we have recovered, save to every man his wife and his children, that they may lead them away, and depart. Then said David, Ye shall not do so, my brethren, with that which the Lord hath given us, who hath preserved us, and delivered the company that came against us into our hand.” 1 Samuel 30:10, 22-23 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1sa.30.10-23.kjv
For by strength shall no man prevail. Often in life there are times when a few people bear the brunt of some challenges on behalf of a group and there is that tendency to want to claim the victory to yourself saying ‘every man for himself’. We see this in the Bible reading today when David and his men went after the Amalekites that had raided their homes. Some of the men were too tired to go all the way with them and so when the Lord granted victory to those who went to battle, they wanted to hold on to the spoils of battle for themselves alone. But David reminded that the victory was truly not won by their numbers but because God granted victory and he in fact said that everyone was going to get an equal share. Have you gone through some situations in life where God eventually came through and granted you victory with attendant blessings? And now you feel the need to enjoy the spoils alone? Remember the rich man that amassed so much and said it was time for his soul to feed fat and yet the owner of life said that very night he will be calling for the leased life. We are blessed to be a blessing and the fact that we came through victorious is because God needs you to show forth his glory. Return the glory to God and be a blessing especially to those of the house of faith who are indeed unable to go the long haul. Remember that God gives to everyone severally according to our abilities.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to always return the glory to you in all my life endeavors. Open my eyes to see opportunities to truly be a blessing to those that you have assigned to me. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
