Depart from Iniquity

“After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.” Leviticus 18:3-4, 30 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/lev.18.3-30.kjv

Depart from Iniquity

Contrary to the popular saying that ‘when you are in Rome, you act like a Roman’, the Bible reading today commands otherwise. In the Bible reading, God warned the Israelites not to act like the Egyptians that they left behind nor like the Canaanites whose land they were going to. Their spirititual identity was to be unchanged and so their actions were to remain aligned with source of that identity, the Lord God. The rest of the chapter details out the specifics of those abominable practices and then closes with the reminder to keep God’s ordinances and not to defile thesmselves.  This is applicable to us Christians in life’s market place. We are not permitted to be identity chameleons changing based on our environment. Recall that the foundation of the Lord stands firm with the seal that the Lord knows those that are his and so everyone who names the name of the Lord must depart from iniquity.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you because you are a solid rock, an unchanging God in life’s changing scenery. Lord, I look to you afresh for grace to stand for you in all aspects of my life and craft. Let my life bring glory to you always in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. ‎
