Divine counsel

“But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord's anointed? And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?” 2 Samuel 19:21-22 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2sa.19.21-22.kjv

Divine counsel

Be wary of ‘appearing right’ counsel. There are certain course of action or advice that seem to make sense or are ‘legally’ correct. However such an advice may not be biblically correct or may simply not be appropriate for the specific situation in which you find yourself. At those times, as a believer one needs to seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit for the right next step. In today’s Bible reading, after the death of Absalom, David was returning to regain his kingdom. Shimei who is one of Saul’s relatives and who had insulted and cursed David in his moment of turmoil when he was running away from Absalom now came back to seek forgiveness. At that point, one of David’s commanders, Joab’s brother thought that the right action was to kill Shimei for daring to insult the anointed of God. Like his brother Joab, who eventually killed Absalom, he thought that it was important to always deal with the enemies of the King when in a position of strength. However, David knew better because he knew that God had won this battle for him and so it was really not time to gloat or then try to avenge the wrong to him. He rebuked the ‘counselor’. As children of God, we must constantly tune our hearing to the frequency of the spirit to help discern when a seemingly appropriate action is in direct opposition to the will of God concerning the situation. In a bid to help God, some people have lost eternal treasures that God would have handed over on a platter of gold.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your loving kindness and faithfulness over my life. Thank you for the gift of the HolySpirit to steer me in your ways. Please grant me the discipline to tune out the noise and focus in on you only so that I may indeed live by your instructions 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
