Finding God through His Word
“And Hilkiah the high priest said unto Shaphan the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the Lord. And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. And Shaphan the scribe shewed the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest hath delivered me a book. And Shaphan read it before the king. And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes. Go ye, enquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great is the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.” 2 Kings 22:8, 10-11, 13 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2ki.22.8-13.kjv

In the book of Joshua 1:8, the Isrealites were given a critical instruction. The book of the law must be studied, meditated upon and followed carefully as a prerequisite for being successful and prosperous. The psalmist also talks about hiding the word of God in his heart so that he may not sin again God. The word of God is a preservation and a source of blessing. A lot of Christians today no longer search the word of God and so while being aware of the popular blessing quotes, lose sight of the detailed preconditions of the many blessings we claim including holiness. In the Bible reading today, in preparation to repair the temple of God as ordered by the God fearing king Josiah, the book of the law was found and read. It then became apparent how far they had drifted from God as a nation and the impending judgement. It was clear. It had been written but for the book to be found it would mean that it has not been used in recent times. It had been in the archives so there was limited references to God’s word. Little wonder that Judah had drifted so far from God. Question today is: Do you know God for yourself? Do you know what his word says concerning most situations of your life? Do you know what his word is speaking today concerning your specifics? Do you know the code of conducts of Christian living and the preconditions for the blessings you claim? Be like the Berean Christians. Search the word for yourself. Guess what, ignorance is not an excuse. God still confirmed his intention to execute judgement on the people even though it was deferred due to the repentant heart of the king when the word was found.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for who you are. Thank you for loving us and for sending your word continuously to us. Please Lord I commit to seeking your word afresh. Please grant me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of you 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
