Grace is not equal to a free pass
“He that sacrificeth unto any god, save unto the Lord only, he shall be utterly destroyed. Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.” Exodus 22:20-21 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/exo.22.20-21.kjv
God’s words are ever true and his commandments should always be followed. In Matt 5:17 the Bible tells us that Jesus said “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them”. He goes on in that chapter to explain a few such as how thinking lustfully in your heart translates to adultery. We are often quick as present day Christians to claim that the Old Testament does not apply and that we are in an era of Grace which often translates in those conversations that we have a free pass. However, Grace makes the examination stricter because God’s Grace actually gives us the ability to live above Sin. When Paul as God to deal with the thorn in his flesh, God told him that His Grace is sufficient for Paul. The HolySpirit has been made available to us in this dispensation to guide us. As we know, Open book exams are often the hardest because they are often application questions. So, how are you applying the laws of God in your heart and daily life. The Bible reading today warns against sacrificing to other gods apart from the Lord. Ask yourself, what are you willing to sacrifice your time, sleep, resources for than for the Lord. We have the guide, let’s strive to pass the open book exam of life.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for loving us and for making your Grace available unto us. Please God, help me daily to recognize your grace to live above sin that I may pass the ultimate exam of life - Pleasing you with my all 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
