Just Obey
”But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:“ Matthew 1:20-21, 24 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/mat.1.20-24.kjv

Divine instructions sometimes transcends logic and the natural order of things. This is because it is issued from the one who knows the end from the beginning. The author and finisher of our faith. Often, there are paths that seem most logical and would typically even be aligned with laid down physical and even spiritual precepts. However, God’s instruction in the instance may intercept those laid down rules and orders to establish a specific divine mandate. Such was the case in the Bible reading today. Joseph had found his betrothed wife to be pregnant and the expected order of action was to put her away. It was the law and would have been the right thing to do. However, God intercepted that decision in an explicit dream providing the context and the unique situation that Mary was in which would have been difficult to explain humanly. However, Joseph obeyed the instructions to support Mary in the birth of the child that would be the savior of the world. Imagine if he had put Mary away over something that she was bewildered by herself, she may have hurt herself and maybe the pregnancy but thank God that we would never know what the alternate path to salvation would have been because Joseph obeyed his instructions. Again, it reinforces the importance of recognizing and following your instructions in line with God’s guidance. It is for your benefit. In the story of Jesus’ birth, if Joseph did not cooperate, he would not have been part of the picture of the salvation story to the world because God would have established an alternative. Recall that the Bible tells us that if men would not praise God he is able to raise stones. Obedience is a preservation.
