Know God for yourself
“And Joash did that which was right in the sight of the LORD all the days of Jehoiada the priest. Now after the death of Jehoiada came the princes of Judah, and made obeisance to the king. Then the king hearkened unto them. And they left the house of the LORD God of their fathers, and served groves and idols: and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass.” 2 Chronicles 24:2, 17-18 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/2ch.24.2-18.kjv

Is your understanding of God and service to him only anchored to the availability of your Pastors or instructors? The Bible tells us in Hebrews 5:12 that when some people are expected to have matured in the things of the kingdom, they still require milk and to be handheld. That is not a sustainable approach. Every individual after being nurtured must discover God for him/herself. In the Bible reading today, it is recorded that Joash the young king did what was right in the sight of the Lord only as long as his mentor and carer the priest was alive and as soon as he died, he turned to sin. For some individuals, the limit of their service and obedience to God is the first few weeks after giving their lives to Christ or only Sundays. That is an open gateway for the enemy to have inroad into such a life. As we see in the story in the Bible reading, it did not end well for King Joash as the Syrians came with a small army but dealt with them and then he missed ‘eternal rest’ as he was not buried in the sepulchers of kings. What’s your fellowship strategy? Is it anchored to an individual? Rethink the strategy and seek to grow in the knowledge of God to ensure sustainable victory.
