Lurch into the deep
”Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.“ Exodus 16:4, 20 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/exo.16.4-20.kjv

Obedience is kept to get the benefits of the blessings of God. The Bible tells us that if we are willing and obedient we will eat the good of the land. Hence, the ability to partake of the good that exists in the land is hinged on following God’s instructions. A blessing misused can become corrupted. In the Bible reading today, God was providing manna to the Israelites in response to their complaints for food in the wilderness after they left Egypt. However they were guided against hoarding. They were to only take up to the measure that they could finish daily. God said to Moses that he wanted to prove them to see if they would walk in His laws. However the Bible records that some of the people disobeyed and took beyond the daily limit and the leftovers bred worms and smelled. It is worthy of note that on the 6th day they were asked to pack double portions of the manna because the 7th day was a day of rest. In those instances the manna did not rot. Hence it is important that we stop trying to rationalize God and figure him out with our human logic. Jesus told Peter to cast his net where he had previously toiled without success. He obeyed and at Jesus’ word he had a net-breaking draw of fishes. His words makes the difference. Follow them to the letter to get the full benefit.
