Pray earnestly

“and they said, The LORD commanded my Lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the children of Israel: and my Lord was commanded by the LORD to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother unto his daughters. And if they be married to any of the sons of the other tribes of the children of Israel, then shall their inheritance be taken from the inheritance of our fathers, and shall be put to the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall it be taken from the lot of our inheritance.” Numbers 36:2-3 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/num.36.2-3.kjv

Pray earnestly

Plead your case at all times. Pray in season and out of season. Pray without ceasing and bring your strong reasons before God. In today’s Bible reading, some of the chiefs of Gilead in the tribe of Manasseh came to Moses with a counter case regarding the decree that had been made for the daughters of Zelophehad to inherit their father’s lot because he did not have any sons. Their grouse was clear. What happens to their own portion of inheritance if these women marry people from other tribes and thus take away the inheritance of their father into the new tribe, then the portion of their father’s tribe is reduced.  Their concerns made sense to Moses and so while the women were now allowed to inherit the properties, there were caveats about whom they could marry. Both cases show how speaking up and making a case results in unprecedented solutions. Another example of someone who pushed in the face of a seeming dead end was Esau who prayed desperately for a blessing from his father Isaac even when he was told that everything had been given to Jacob. In the end, Issac blessed him and told him that he will be able to break the yoke of his brother off this neck at some point.  The key message here therefore is that we should ask, seek and knock. God’s grace is able to reverse standing laws in our favour if we keep pressing.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, thank you because you are the merciful and gracious God. I come before your throne of grace. Please be merciful unto me and restore the years that the locust and canker worms have eaten in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. ‎
