The dangers of inordinate wants
“And Ahab spake unto Naboth, saying, Give me thy vineyard, that I may have it for a garden of herbs, because it is near unto my house: and I will give thee for it a better vineyard than it; or, if it seem good to thee, I will give thee the worth of it in money. And Naboth said to Ahab, The Lord forbid it me, that I should give the inheritance of my fathers unto thee.” 1 Kings 21:2-3 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1ki.21.2-3.kjv
Don’t be consumed by your earthly desires and wants. The extreme desire for wealth and other items have led people down a road of sin and ultimate regret like the story in the Bible reading today. King Ahab wanted Naboth’s inheritance, not for God’s use, but for a flimsy excuse to plant herbs because it was close to the palace. Naboth understood the worth of his treasures and refused to trade. However, we know that the kings No.1 cheerleader towards evil went to get the land at all cost because the king was so consumed with it that he lost his appetite. This did not end well. All of Ahab’s male descendants were to be cut off because of that action even though technically it was the icing on the cake of all the bad actions that Ahab had been committing. In hindsight the garden couldn’t have been worth that much to Ahab. Question today: What are the things that you are chasing so badly? To what end is the desire? Is it for self gratification or to the glory of God? Is it driving you so much that you throw caution to the wind? Be careful, you may be trading a lot more to get it and it may turn to gravel in your mouth if it’s not in line with the will of the Father.
Prayer: Father, create in me a new heart. One that is set on you always. Deliver me from distractions from my flesh and save me from evil cheerleaders and advisers. I make room afresh for the leading of the Holy Spirit. Please help me Lord 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
