The foundations of the past

“And Solomon made all the vessels that pertained unto the house of the Lord: the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the shewbread was, And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right side, and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs of gold, So was ended all the work that king Solomon made for the house of the Lord. And Solomon brought in the things which David his father had dedicated; even the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, did he put among the treasures of the house of the Lord.” 1 Kings 7:48-49, 51 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1ki.7.48-51.kjv

The foundations of the past

Do you remember the source of your assignments? Do you despite the innovations of the new remember the foundations of the wisdom of the past? In the Bible reading today and the text preceding and within the chapter, we see how Solomon lavished precious metals and specifically gold on the works of the house of God. But when he was finished, he was careful to bring in the things which his father David the originator of the assignment had dedicated. He not only brought them in, he kept them as treasures in the house of God. Solomon could have recreated those treasures with the state of art resources that he now had access to but he understood the importance of the blessings of the fathers. In our deployments of the kingdom assignment today, there are so many options and niceties that can be likened to the gold available to Solomon. However the Bible tells us in Prov 22:28 not to remove the ancient landmarks that our fathers set. The doctrines of holiness and righteousness and the core instructions of faith amongst others. They are treasures that we must bind in our hearts always (Prov 4:20-21). Jeremiah 6:16 also tells us to see and ask for the old paths so that we can find rest. And Job 8:8 says “Ask the former generation and find out what their ancestors learned,”. Clearly there is something about the instructions of old, the unencumbered clear instructions of God executed by the generals of old. So the question today is: As you execute the new and bring in the innovations to expand the reach, are the core values still clear and treasured as in the times of old?

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for your word. Thank you for the guidance that you have provided always to the fathers of faith in the past and present. Please Lord, open my eyes to see the core treasures, so that I can bind them upon my heart always and not deviate from the center of your will as I go about my daily assignments in the new world 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
