The Sincere Worship

“He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, But their heart is far from me. Howbeit in vain do they worship me, Teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.” Mark 7:6-8 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/mrk.7.6-8.kjv

The Sincere Worship

True worship or ‘showmanship’? God’s commandments or men’s tradition? Critical distinction that are required for christians as we navigate our life’s choices and those around us. In the Bible reading today, the Pharisees were accusing Jesus’ disciples for not following certain traditions around washing of hands. Jesus used this as a moment of education to highlight how they have become so consumed with traditions that they do not follow the commandments of God to the letter.  While some doctrines and traditions originated based on specific instructions and were suited for a specific point in time, it is important to always recognize what the core essence of the practice is and make sure that it has not become an empty proxy for following God at the detriment of true obedience. The Bible tells us that the real worshippers of God are those who worship him in spirit and truth. So make sure that you are not just going through the motions without connection in worship and true obedience.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you because you are the Almighty God whose throne is in heaven but is yet mindful of our day to day lives. Lord please help me to connect to you in true worship. Open my eyes, ears and heart to know exactly what your expectations of worship are so that I am not consumed by doctrine and the perceptions of men in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. ‎
