Trust the Lord
“Why should the name of our father be done away from among his family, because he hath no son? Give unto us therefore a possession among the brethren of our father. And Moses brought their cause before the LORD. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father's brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them.” Numbers 27:4-7 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/num.27.4-6.kjv

The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding (or preconceived notions). When we acknowledge God in the details, he directs our path. The Bible tells us of God’s instruction to Peter in a trance where he challenged his paradigms and told him not to call unclean, that which God had called clean. This was ahead of a message for fellowship with a centurion Cornelius, one that Peter may have turned down because he did not fit the profile of the typical Jews that Peter had been working with. God’s ways are not our ways and we must be careful when we become gatekeepers of God’s instructions to the people. Such was the case in today’s Bible reading. The daughters of Zelophehad had approached Moses to get an inheritance for their father’s house despite being all female in a tradition that passed the rights to the sons. However, rather than rule out the concern as unconventional, Moses took it to God. In a surprising turn of things, God endorsed the request. Not only did they get what they wanted, but a new law was written to be passed through the generations that granted rights of inheritance to the daughters if the individual had no sons. So before you endorse something as wrong or right, take it to God. He cares about the details. He rules in the affairs of men and can use uncommon situations in uncommon ways. Learn to trust and seek his face.
