Wisdom for service

“And now, O Lord my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I am but a little child: I know not how to go out or come in. Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.” 1 Kings 3:7, 9-10, 13 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/1ki.3.7-13.kjv

Wisdom for service

Choose wisely. Make the most of your moments. Recognize your true need and don’t replace your wants with your needs in the moments that count. In the Bible reading today, Solomon had given an extreme offering and so he caught God’s attention in an uncommon way. He was being offered a blank cheque. As a young new king, he accessed his situation and realized that if he must be successful in the assignment that he has been called to, he needed the wisdom and guidance of God. The Bible records that this line of thinking and request pleased God so much that he not only gave him the wisdom but also added the icing on the cake by giving him riches and honor and even a promise to be the star king on his generation. All these came to Solomon because he prioritized what was critical. As Christians, we sometimes offer to God that which is considered our widow’s mite, our all, our extreme sacrifice of service. Unfortunately though, when asked to present our request to God as a reward for our sacrifices. we deprioritize our true needs such as guidance from God that unlock a river of successes and instead seek for the immediate or physical needs that are temporary. For someone who has access to the creator of the universe, the master planner of everything seen and unseen, it would be similar to shortchanging one’s self when we don’t leverage some of that access to get generational blessings that arise from the impact of his continued guidance. So, choose wisely. Cash the cheque!!

Prayer: Dear God, I acknowledge afresh your greatness and I am humbled indeed that a God so great is mindful of me. Father, I seek your presence, wisdom, guidance and clarity afresh over the issues of my life and in the assignments that you have given me so that I can deliver my assignment to your glory alone 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
