Your words are powerful

”And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be? And Jacob loved Rachel; and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.“ Genesis 29:15, 18 KJV https://bible.com/bible/1/gen.29.15-18.kjv

Your words are powerful

The Bible tells us that with heart man believes unto righteousness but with mouth confession is made unto salvation. The words that we say are very powerful. They can be a blessing to us or a snare. The Bible tells us in the book of Proverbs that you are snared by the words of your mouth. The Bible reading today presents an interesting dialogue that happened between Laban and Jacob. Acknowledging that Jacob had been serving him for about a month, Laban asked him what wages he wanted for serving him.  Due to the love that Jacob had for Rachel he said he would serve seven years for Rachel. Why seven years? Who’s to say that Laban could not have agreed to give her to him without him needing to serve that long or even at all. After all, when the servant of Abraham came for Rebecca, she returned with them after only a few days. It wasn’t for lack of means either because Jacob carried the rights of the first born and the blessings of his father. He could have gotten the appropriate gifts required.  However, he chose to say 7 years and we know that he eventually spent 14 years because he was tricked. The second seven years however was not a choice. He had been snared by his first choice and so 7 years was presented to him the second time despite Laban being the one who was at fault. The key lesson here is to be careful of making pronouncements based on our head or heart knowledge. The holy spirit in the life of a believer is able to grant utterance if we yield.  When you find yourself at moments of decision, seek help from the Holy Spirit so that you don't become snared by your own confessions and pronouncements.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you because you are the only wise God. I look to you today afresh. Please guide me, lead me and grant me utterance always in Jesus name 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. ‎
